Getting in shape is something we should all do.  But in today’s economy, paying high prices for gym memberships, the hottest and latest workout gear, or classes may not be in the budget.

Here are some costs effective ways to stay in shape both physically and financially.

  1.  Join a free tennis club.  There are free tennis lessons atCoanParkatAtlanta,GAfrom March-October every year.  These lessons are provided by excellent coaches who have played competitively and are interested in giving back to the community.
  2. Join a local recreation center and work out there.  TheEast PointRecreationCenteris only $45/year for membership for residents ofEast Point.
  3. Join a Zumba, Yoga, or Salsa class at a Park and Recreation center.  You can find these classes all overAtlantafor as little as $6/class.  You can also sign up for a package deal and get classes for even less.
  4. Try a ChicagoStep or Urban Ballroom class.  Classes are generally $6, however, there are many free classes given at places like Barley’s on Friday evenings.  Check out: www.1stepabove.com for more details.
  5. Go for a walk around your neighborhood or at a local park.  You may even want to join or start a dog walking club in your neighborhood.  Walking is both free and invigorating.
  6. Do jumping jacks or purchase a jump rope.  This is high impact exercise for little to no money
  7. Pull out your roller blades and go for a spin.  If you don’t have any, visit your local thrift store to purchase some.
  8. Check out the new Spin Cycle center, IndoCycle Studio, 3401 Norman Berry Drive, Suite, 146, East Point, GA 30344 404-209-7656.   It’s the first of its kind, offering a variety of programs from beginner to advanced with different price points.
  9. Get involved in a relay.  This way you can give back to others while giving back to yourself.  Check out your local city calendar for upcoming events.
  10. VisitStone Mountainand walk up or around the mountain.  If you catch MARTA, you don’t have to pay to enter the park, or you can get a yearly parking tag for $25.
